
Catarina Alves Costa
Catarina Alves Costa (born 1967) is a portuguese award-winning filmmaker and anthropologist. She directed, among other films, Margot (2022), A Room in the House (2016), Let’s talk about António Campos (2010), National 206 (2009), The Architect and the Old Village (2004), Our Lady Aparecida (1994) and co-directed A Ramadan in Lisbon (2019). She recently released the book Peasants in the Cinema, 2022. Her last film, Margot was shown in festivals such as DocLisboa, DOK.Fest Munchen, ETHNOCINECA in Vienna, Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival, VIZANTROP Festival Belgrade, Ethnofest- Athens and won the Grand Prize at the Tokyo Documentary Film Festival. She's a Professor at Nova University of Lisbon in the fields of Visual Anthropology and Film with a long career as an international filmmaker. She now directs the Centre for Research in Anthropology, CRIA.
