Portugal Film in the European Film Awards [22/10/2020]


Today, the short film candidates for the European Film Awards were announced. Founded in 1988, the European Film Academy aims to promote European film culture. Every year, EFA and EFA Productions reward the greatest achievements of European Cinema in a total of 23 categories such as European Film, European Director, European Actor and Actress among others.

In this 33rd edition, four films from the Portugal Film catalog were nominated as Short Film Candidates:

Invisible Hero, by Cristèle Alves Meira, present at the Semaine de La Critique du Festival de Cannes, Tree of Life Award for Best Portuguese Film at IndieLisboa, among others is the candidate of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival where it won the Best European Film Award;
Past Perfect by Jorge Jácome, that premiered at Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival, was the winner of the International Competition’s Short Film Grand Prize at IndieLisboa, is the candidate of the Uppsala Short Film Festival;
The Bite by Pedro Neves Marques, which debuted at TIFF - Toronto International Film Festival is the candidate of the Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen where it won the Prize for Best International Short Fiction Film;
The Shift by Laura Carreira, made its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival where it was nominated for the Orizzonti Prize for Best Short Film and is the festival’s candidate for the EFA Awards.

This year's list of candidates has 24 titles, selected by the Academy's various European film festival partners. The international jury of each partner festival, appoints a candidate to represent that festival. Of the 24 finalists there are six short films of portuguese production.

UPDATE:

These films were selected and nominated in collaboration with a number of film festivals. After the list was completed in September, the participating festivals nominated five films.
Past Perfect by Jorge Jácome is one of those five films running for the European Short Film 2020 award. Now, from 8 to 12 December, through various online events, the more than 3800 EFA members will vote for the winners.
