Joćo Canijo
Was assistant director to Manoel de Oliveira (Francisca, Le Soulier de Satin), Wim Wenders, Alain Tanner and Werner Schroeter.
His first feature, Três Menos Eu, was the opening film of Rotterdam Film Festival in 1988.
Since then, has directed more than 10 features, which have been regularly present in the official selection of the most important international film festivals – Cannes, Venice, Toronto.
Sangue do Meu Sangue (Blood of My Blood) received the FIPRESCI award in San Sebastian, and the Grand Jury Prize in Miami Film Festival. It was widely awarded and was presented in more than 50 international film festivals. Fátima had its world première in Rotterdam Film Festival.
Several retrospectives have been dedicated to his work, namely, in Busan, La Rochelle, Buenos Aires (BAFICI), Galicia (CGAI/Cineuropa) and Cineteca Nacional de México.
